My daughter loves to play the “would you rather” game.
Here’s the question for you today.
Would you rather have a seasoned or an experienced professional?
Seasoned professionals – have gone through good times and bad times, understand business implications for decision taken especially during hardship. They have the resilience to get through the bad times because they have been there. Resilience can only be built during tough situations. Most of the times, it’s not about how or why you got into the situation, rather, how you came out of it and what you learned from the experience.
Experienced professionals – they know the theory and the experience on how to do the job, but they maybe lacking the resilience to get over the crisis. Some will just bail out when the hard times roll.
When searching for a leader, I look for a seasoned professional. Someone who can walk with me through crisis, smiling and be respectful during high stress situations. Knowing the crisis is just temporary and it’s not the end of the world.
Here’s my question to you: Do you think hardships and tough times should be included in the resume?
(only the ones that are relevant to the position obviously!)
